Aquarium Mural. Rainforest and jungle murals. Page 1

March 2008. Aquarium of the Lakes. The Lake District. Cumbria. For Creative Theming.

This was a project spread over many areas so I have had to create two pages, make sure you check them both out.

As part of the refurbishment work my job was to paint murals on various themes, Lake Malawi, the Amazon and the rainforest.

African mangrove swamp, murals and theming around tanks and pools.
 
 
The African mangrove swamp and Lake Malawi murals.
This area was originally painted in black and had two walls themed as village buildings.
I decided to paint a jungle mural that filled the room to help brighten up this otherwise dark space.
The contrast between the full height trees and the open grassland help give a greater sense of space and open the room up.

Looking into the room the mural fills the space and submerges you into the world of the mangrove swamp.

Walking into the room from the right the trees tower overhead in this African jungle mural.

Entering the room from the left the roots really surround the viewer making this mangrove mural merge with the space.

This jungle mural moves around the fish tanks, helping to hide doorways which creates the feel of open space.

The Amazon River and Jungle Canopy Mural.
On the other side of the aquarium the Amazon river area houses various fish including the red bellied piranha. My job was to brighten up this dark area. Originally the room was painted black so I painted the mural as though the jungle was growing from out of the darkness. With just a couple of mural areas you get a glimpse out in the jungle canopy giving the illusion of being amongst the trees.
 
Tropical rainforest and toucan murals
As you walk into the Amazon area you are greeted by a huge jungle mural that grows out of the darkness.
